Volunteer Expectations

We are grateful you have chosen to be an English Teacher at Colegio Mesoamericano - Patzicia and are anxious to make use of your skills, talents, and desire to serve. Volunteers want to serve and want to be able to use their talents to help others. They want to be able to look back and know they have made a difference. In order to help you accomplish this, and in order to make a difference in the lives of our students, we would ask that you consider our following needs.

  • Work in the schools Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. until 2:15 p.m.
  • Create teaching aids, materials, activities, games, songs, etc. to teach the students according to the outlined objectives.
  • Consider teaching additional English classes to parents or other members of the community.
  • Be willing to occasionally tutor students needing special attention outside of class.
  • Communicate with parents, teachers and administration so we can better help you, and you can better help us.
  • Supervise on field trips and other school related activities.
  • Administer exams at the end of each semester.
  • Help in the development of curriculum for the English program.
  • Be willing to learn Spanish or use your existing Spanish skills to help others.
  • Be open-minded and accepting of cultural diversity.
  • Be honest and above reproach in all your dealings.
  • Genuinely work with roommates, associates and others to solve problems.
  • Inform the school when you are sick and unable to work.
  • Take vacation when school is not in session.
